Raising & Moving

Houses & Buildings

We move stucco and wood frame homes, apartments, hotels, train cars, machinery, airport hangars, garages, tanks, barns, and boats are just some of the examples of the types of structures that can be relocated.

We also raise structures for all types of foundation repairs or for basements to be installed under homes.

Every project is unique.  Just a quick call away to answer your questions, or for additional information.

Raising & Moving Historical Buildings

A structure relocation is the process of moving a structure from one location to another. There are two main ways for a structure to be moved: disassembling and then reassembling it at the required destination, or transporting it whole. For the latter, the building may be pushed on temporary rails or dollies if the distance is short. Otherwise, wheels, such as flatbed trucks, are used. These moves can be complicated and require the removal of protruding parts of the building, such as the chimney, as well as obstacles along the journey, such as overhead cables and trees.

Reasons for moving a building range from commercial reasons such as scenery, to preserving an important or historic building. Moves may also be made simply at the whim of the owner, or to separate a building from the plot of land that it stands

Earthquake Retrofitting or House Bolting

Preventing earthquake damage

This is the process of attaching a house to its concrete foundation using foundation plates and anchor bolts. California is "earthquake country" and we who live here should be aware that the up-and-down and side-to-side motion of an earthquake can shake an unbolted house off its foundation.

David Younger Construction specializes in foundation bolting and the bracing of cripple walls (short stud walls between the floor and foundation of some houses) by using structural-grade plywood which, if needed, provides greater resistance to earthquakes. These steps, along with properly tying the floor system down with approved framing anchors, will make yours a safer home.

Leveling

Re-leveling Existing Structures
Underpinning is the drilling or installing of new piers after the structure has been re-leveled and returned to its approximate original constructed position, including the abandoning of the original piers under the structure.

Foundation Repairs -  Reinforce foundation walls (Sister walls)
A foundation sister wall is designed to reinforce the structure's existing failing foundation wall. In this design "all thread" bolts are drilled through the existing wall to provide lateral support. Steel plates are installed to provide more support for the "all thread". The wall is formed using standard plywood forming method with the "all thread" penetrating through the forms providing lateral support for the form.

Shoring

Homes, buildings, and other structures sometimes need a little bit of help. Houses sink, buildings lean, floods come and change everything. Structural steel and posts may be installed to level floor(s) in houses and buildings. Walls, for many reasons can start sagging, bowing, or leaning, requiring shoring to be applied. A basement can be added underneath an existing home by raising the building, excavating beneath, building the new walls/floor, and setting down the home on the new foundation.
